Salem & Castiel, an Animal Ally
I adopted two cats a year apart from each other after literally never owning a cat, or being around cats my whole life. I had heard all the misconceptions about cats (I.e, they’re mean, they’re distant, etc.). However, I knew that couldn’t be true. My cats, Salem and Castiel, have proven that such misconceptions were far from the truth.

Two years ago, I was in a heavy battle with depression and I didn’t feel that I had much to live for. I spent my days going down a horrible path— drinking, partying, and being self-destructive. I was my own worst enemy, truly. One morning in the midst of it all, I was scrolling through Facebook and seen a post with a bunch kittens free to a good home. Something sparked in me and I decided to adopt the runt of the litter, a little black cat. I chose to name him Salem and the rest is history. I swear it’s like God knew I needed him because suddenly, I had a reason to stick around. For the next year, my mental health got better at an incredibly fast rate, but I knew something was missing from this little family God had given me. I saw yet another Facebook post about kittens needing a good home, and I adopted my orange terror named Castiel. Despite the fact that his nickname is, “orange terror,” he is the sweetest boy. Castiel and Salem have literally saved my life. Depression is a constant battle, but it feels a lot easier when you have two angels by your side every day.

Salem & Castiel is My Best Friend and is featured as a Cat.
