Tala became part of our family before my first birthday. She was already about two years old when my family rescued her, so I do not remember a life without her. She has been beside me through every stage of growing up.
When I look back at pictures from when I was little, Tala is always there. As I grew bigger, she grew older, but the way she loved and protected me never changed. She has always watched over me and made sure I was okay. No matter how much time passed, she remained the same loving and loyal dog who had been with me from the beginning.
Tala is now around 14 years old and has battled blood cancer. Watching her get older has been difficult because she has been part of my life for as long as I can remember. Even after everything she has faced, she is still loving, protective and devoted to our family.
Tala may have started her life as a rescue, but she became so much more than that. She became my protector, my companion and one of my very first friends.
We did not simply give Tala a home. She gave me a childhood filled with love, comfort and memories that I will carry with me forever.
